NOT YOUR PARENT’S RETIREMENT, MAN! I wrote this article about the changing aspects of retirement with esteemed systems theory psychologist Dr. John Miller. Having access to the latest research that really shows how our expectations of “retirement” are changing was quite an eye-opener. For one thing, working to 65, and then living out one’s “golden years” in idleness, although it seems like a long-standing idea, really only dates from the mid-20th century. As the era of the company man has faded, so too have the monolithic ideas about what the later stages of life should look like.
These insights have served me well in creating advertising aimed at this group.
