HOLD IT RIGHT THERE!  TXU, a Texas-based utility, wanted to create a site that would explain to consumers that many appliances still use electricity when they are off. This is called “phantom power.” We created the “energy thieves” idea to help put across the idea quickly in a non-hectoring way. In the main part of the site, there is an extensive calculator feature that helps people get a sense of how much energy—and therefore money—their appliances may be wasting every year.
